What Kinds of Damage Can a Weather Damage Claims Adjuster Help With?

Weather damage can lead to all sorts of problems, and our public adjusters are experienced with all of them. Here are some of the more common issues we evaluate:

  • Broken windows. Wind, hail, flying debris—it doesn’t take much to knock out a window. Our adjusters will examine the window, but we’ll also look at the frame and surrounding wall to learn if there is any additional damage.
  • Clogged pipes. Higher than normal volumes of water, storm runoff, and debris like leaves and twigs can clog pipes in and around your home, leading to water damage and plumbing problems.
  • Roof leaks. Weather events can be hard on your roof, from wind tearing off shingles to hail punching holes in the roof. Unfortunately, even a small leak can cause serious water damage inside your home, so you’ll need help with roof repair right away. Our public adjusters will carefully assess the problem and determine the best way to stop the leak and fix any existing water damage.
  • Appliance issues. Another side effect of water damage is difficulty with electrical systems. If one of your appliances was exposed to flood water, a leak, or a strong power surge, it could have suffered electrical damage. These issues can be challenging to diagnose and repair; in some cases, the best solution is to replace the unit. Often, appliance damage is overlooked, so your public adjuster will examine any household appliances that might have been affected.
  • Structural or furniture damage. Water can easily seep into walls and other structures and frequently creates a perfect environment for mold to grow. Furniture is also easily affected, especially soft surfaces like couch or chair cushions that soak up water and moisture. We’ll examine the walls, floors, and furniture items for signs of water damage and early indications of mold to ensure you receive compensation for these issues as well.

How Expensive is Hurricane Insurance in Melbourne?

Hurricane insurance is essential in Florida, but people often have concerns about cost. It’s important to understand that different insurers may have slightly higher or lower prices, but there could also be differences in coverage, so you should read any potential policy carefully.

Most homeowner’s insurance policies will include some type of hurricane coverage, but you will need to buy flood insurance separately. If you consider the cost of both types of insurance, hurricane coverage averages around $2,555 a year.

You may be able to get that cost down with a higher deductible, but then you will also pay more before your insurance kicks in if you have hurricane damage. For this reason, a lower-premium policy may sometimes cost you more in the long run.

What About Other Types of Weather Damage?

Most policies will cover losses sustained due to rain, wind, hail, or flying debris. However, many individual policies add a deductible or require you to pay extra for damage explicitly caused by a hurricane as opposed to a regular rain storm.

Will Your Renter’s Insurance Cover Hurricane Damage?

It depends on how the loss occurred. Renter’s insurance will usually cover damage from rain and wind but not flood or storm surge damage, and you can buy additional policies to cover these situations.

Typically, issues like internal leaks or rain damage will be covered, but you will need to check your policy to be sure. One piece of good news is that, unlike homeowner’s insurance, renter’s policies usually don’t require a specific deductible for hurricane damage.

Note, however, that you will still need to pay the standard deductible for the policy, which is often $250 or $500.
